Smart Patient Portal & Token Ecosystem

Smart Patient Portal & Token Ecosystem

This project is an end-to-end healthcare application designed to modernize the patient journey from pre-arrival to post-consultation. Moving beyond a simple token display screen, the system functions as a unified digital health passport. It connects patients, triage nurses, and attending doctors in real-time—automating appointment booking, synchronizing live patient vitals across medical devices, and creating a permanent, secure archive for medical bills and histories.

📅 Frictionless Appointment & Queue Tracking Patients can seamlessly schedule visits and track their live queue status (Digital Token) via their mobile app, eliminating the anxiety of crowded, unpredictable waiting rooms.

🩺 Real-Time Vitals Synchronization Upon arrival, triage nurses enter baseline vitals (blood pressure, blood sugar) into a dedicated tablet app. This data instantly syncs to both the patient's mobile app and the doctor's dashboard, ensuring the physician is fully prepped before the patient even enters the room.

📂 Digital Medical Archive & Billing Post-consultation, the platform automatically digitizes and saves all medical records, prescriptions, and itemized billing to the patient's secure app for transparent, future reference (e.g., for insurance claims).

Problem

Statement

Hospital waiting rooms are notoriously stressful. Patients experience high anxiety due to opaque wait times and disconnected touchpoints. Traditionally, triage nurses write down vitals on paper, which doctors then have to re-read or manually enter into a separate system. Furthermore, patients frequently lose physical medical bills and prescriptions, creating massive friction when they need them for insurance claims or follow-up visits. The hospital needed a unified system to reduce wait times, eliminate paper trails, and empower the patient with their own health data.

Solution

Statement

I designed a multi-platform digital ecosystem that brings absolute transparency to the hospital visit. By creating a live "Token & Queue" system, patients know exactly when it’s their turn. I architected a secure, cross-device data flow where the nurse's tablet seamlessly communicates with the doctor's interface, completely eliminating paper charts. Finally, I designed a "Digital Health Wallet" within the patient app to securely store all post-consultation documents, transforming a highly stressful hospital visit into a smooth, guided digital experience.

Competitor

Analysis

Before defining the user flows, I analyzed existing hospital software and queueing apps to find critical UX flaws.

  • Legacy Hospital Information Systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner): Extremely powerful but designed purely for hospital administration and billing. Their interfaces are notoriously clunky and they completely ignore the patient's mobile experience.

  • Generic Queue Management Apps: They only tell the user a number. They lack the deep medical integration (vitals, prescriptions, billing) needed for a holistic healthcare journey.

  • 💡 The Strategic Pivot: I designed a patient-first ecosystem. Instead of treating the patient as just a "number in a queue," the platform acts as a personal health companion that keeps them informed at every step, while quietly doing the heavy data-syncing for the medical staff in the background.

User

Persona

Designing for healthcare means designing for users who are likely stressed, unwell, or distracted. The UI had to be exceptionally clean and accessible.
